Clinical Hypnotherapy

Change that starts beneath the surface

Clinical hypnotherapy that works with your subconscious mind to release anxiety, resolve stored emotions, and break the patterns that talking therapy alone cannot reach.

Is This You?

You’ve tried everything. The pattern hasn’t shifted.

You understand the problem intellectually. You’ve talked about it, journalled it, read every book. But the feeling hasn’t changed. That’s because the issue isn’t in your conscious mind.

You lie awake replaying conversations and catastrophising outcomes that haven’t happened yet

You feel stuck in cycles of self-sabotage — procrastinating, people-pleasing, or pulling away from what you actually want

Anxiety shows up physically — tight chest, racing heart, stomach knots — even when nothing is obviously wrong

You’ve done talking therapy and it helped you understand the problem, but the emotional charge is still there

You carry tension you can’t explain. Your body feels like it’s bracing for something that already happened

You know you’re capable of more, but something invisible keeps pulling you back to the same place

Understanding the Process

Clinical hypnotherapy is not what you think it is

Forget everything you’ve seen on television. Clinical hypnotherapy has nothing to do with stage shows, swinging watches, or losing control. It is a recognised therapeutic modality used in clinical settings worldwide, supported by a growing body of neuroscientific research.

During a session, you remain fully aware and in complete control. Hypnosis is simply a state of focused attention — a natural brainwave state you enter every day when you’re absorbed in a book, driving on autopilot, or lost in thought. The difference is that in a clinical setting, this state is guided intentionally to access the subconscious mind, where deeply held beliefs, emotional memories, and automatic responses are stored.

This is where clinical hypnotherapy differs fundamentally from talking therapy. Cognitive approaches work at the conscious level — the 5% of the mind responsible for logic and reasoning. But the patterns driving your anxiety, your self-doubt, your emotional reactivity? They live in the other 95%. They were encoded before language, before logic, often before you had any framework to process them.

Clinical hypnotherapy goes directly to the source. It doesn’t just manage symptoms — it identifies and resolves the root cause. When the subconscious updates its programming, the conscious mind follows. The anxiety quiets. The pattern breaks. Not through willpower, but because the driver has been removed.

An Integrated Approach

Not just hypnotherapy. A complete clinical framework.

Most hypnotherapists offer a single technique. My practice is different. As an Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapist, Reiki Master/Teacher, and emotional release specialist, I draw from multiple evidence-based and energetic modalities to create a session that responds to what your system actually needs — not a one-size-fits-all script.

Each session is tailored in real time. Clare may begin with clinical hypnotherapy to access the subconscious, integrate EMDR or EFT to process specific memories, draw on Rapid Transformational Therapy to reframe core beliefs, and use energy healing to release what the body is holding. This isn’t mixing methods for the sake of it — it’s reading what’s present and responding with the right tool at the right moment.

Clinical Hypnotherapy

Guided access to the subconscious mind where core beliefs and emotional patterns are stored. The foundation of every session.

Rapid Transformational Therapy

A structured method for identifying the root cause of an issue in a single session, then reframing the belief at its origin.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. A clinically validated approach for processing difficult memories without re-experiencing them.

EFT (Tapping)

Emotional Freedom Technique. Combines cognitive reframing with acupressure point stimulation to reduce the emotional intensity of specific memories.

Energy Healing & Reiki

Working with the body’s subtle energy field to release stored tension, restore balance, and support the nervous system’s return to regulation.

Past Life Regression

For clients who are open to it — exploring patterns that may extend beyond this lifetime. Often profoundly revealing, always held with care.

Areas of Specialism

Conditions that respond well to clinical hypnotherapy

Clinical hypnotherapy is effective across a wide range of emotional and psychological conditions. These are the areas where Clare has the deepest clinical experience.

This is not an exhaustive list. If you’re unsure whether hypnotherapy could help with your specific situation, get in touch for a no-obligation conversation.

Your Session

What to expect when you work with Clare

Every session is different because every client is different. But the framework remains consistent — designed to create safety, depth, and lasting resolution.

01

Discovery Conversation

Before any session, Clare takes time to understand your history, your goals, and what you’ve already tried. This is a genuine conversation, not a tick-box intake form. It informs every aspect of the work that follows.

02

Guided Induction

Using a combination of relaxation techniques and focused attention, Clare guides you into a comfortable hypnotic state. You remain fully conscious and in control throughout — most clients describe it as deeply relaxing, like the moment just before sleep.

03

Subconscious Work

This is where the transformation happens. I work with the images, memories, and feelings that surface from your subconscious mind, using whichever clinical tools are most appropriate — regression, reframing, EMDR, energy work, or a combination.

04

Integration & Rewiring

The session closes with positive suggestion work and, where appropriate, a personalised recording for you to listen to between sessions. This reinforces the neural pathways created during the session and supports ongoing integration.

The Neuroscience

Why hypnotherapy works: the brainwave explanation

Your brain operates at different frequencies depending on your state of awareness. In everyday waking life, you’re in Beta — the active, analytical state where stress and anxiety thrive. Clinical hypnotherapy gently shifts you into Theta, the deeply relaxed state where the subconscious becomes directly accessible.

This isn’t mystical — it’s measurable. EEG studies consistently show that hypnotic states produce distinct changes in brain activity, increasing theta waves and reducing the critical filter that normally prevents us from updating deeply held beliefs. This is the same state children are in until around age seven — which is why so many of our core beliefs were formed during that window.

Beta

13–30 Hz

Active consciousness. Where anxiety, overthinking, and stress responses live. The analytical mind is fully engaged.

Alpha

8–13 Hz

Relaxed awareness. Creativity, calm focus, and light meditation. The bridge between conscious and subconscious.

Theta

4–8 Hz

Deep subconscious access. Where hypnotherapy operates. Beliefs can be identified, reframed, and released at this level.

Delta

0.5–4 Hz

Profound restorative state. Deep healing, cellular repair, and connection to the body’s innate wisdom.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose control during hypnosis?

No. You remain fully conscious and aware throughout. Hypnosis is a state of focused attention, not unconsciousness. You can open your eyes and stop the session at any point. You will never do or say anything against your will.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on the complexity of what you’re working with. Some clients experience significant shifts in a single session. Others benefit from 3–6 sessions to work through layered patterns. Clare will give you an honest assessment after your initial conversation — she will never recommend more sessions than you need.

Can hypnotherapy work online?

Yes. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person work. Many of Clare’s clients work with her remotely via Zoom. All you need is a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be interrupted.

What if I can’t be hypnotised?

If you can daydream, you can be hypnotised. Hypnosis is a natural state that everyone enters multiple times a day. Some people go deeper more quickly than others, but the therapeutic work is effective at any depth of trance.

Is hypnotherapy safe?

Clinical hypnotherapy is recognised as safe by the NHS and the British Medical Association. I am a member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy and the National Society of Psychotherapists, and is fully insured. She works within strict ethical guidelines and maintains regular clinical supervision.

Will I remember what happened?

Most clients remember everything. Occasionally, some details may feel slightly hazy immediately afterwards (similar to recalling a vivid dream), but the therapeutic benefits are fully retained regardless.

How is this different from talking therapy?

Talking therapy works primarily with the conscious mind — helping you understand and rationalise your experiences. Clinical hypnotherapy works with the subconscious, where the emotional charge and automatic patterns are actually stored. Many clients come to Clare after years of talking therapy, saying ‘I understand why I do this, but I still can’t stop.’ Hypnotherapy addresses that gap.

What does it feel like?

Most people describe it as deeply relaxing — a pleasant heaviness, warmth, or floating sensation. Some feel emotional during the session as stored feelings surface and release. Afterwards, clients typically report feeling lighter, calmer, and clearer. Some notice shifts immediately; for others, changes unfold over the following days and weeks.

"I’d been in talking therapy for three years. I understood everything about why I felt the way I did, but nothing had actually changed. After two sessions with Clare, something shifted at a level I can’t quite explain. The anxiety that had been constant for years just... wasn’t there anymore. It’s been four months and it hasn’t come back."
